Lighting Boundary

Treat wet fixtures, wiring, and bonding as service territory. Use visual checks first, then hand off any fault or flood condition that reaches the electrical path.

OWNER-SAFE
  • Confirm the breaker and GFCI state from outside the panel and photograph the exact fixture label.
  • Inspect lens condition, niche corrosion, water line, and whether the light still trips protection after reset.
  • Keep hands out of wet niches, junction boxes, and submerged wiring paths.
PRO-ONLY
  • Open the fixture, replace the niche or gasket, or change the transformer, driver, or wiring.
  • Trace bonding, grounding, or controller faults through the electrical path.
  • Service any light that requires working wet, energized, or sealed compartments.
STOP NOW
  • Shock sensation, breaker trips, arcing, smoke, or a light that behaves unpredictably after water intrusion.
  • Evidence of water inside the light housing or junction box.
  • Any condition that suggests the circuit is energized where water can touch it.
DO THIS FIRST

Record the fixture model, controller model, and breaker location before opening any niche or ordering parts.

Do not
  • Do not open a wet niche before turning off power at the breaker
  • Do not assume one lighting family's manual applies to another brand or series
  • Do not improvise around water-adjacent wiring — that is electrician territory

Pool Lighting Systems and Fixtures

Lighting is a fixture problem, a controller problem, and a wet electrical boundary. Use the exact family manual before you replace parts or change scenes.

1

Identify the fixture and control path

Lighting families split by fixture style, controller, and variant, so the exact label matters before you touch anything.

2

Choose the exact variant before replacement

Variant choice matters for lenses, niches, controllers, and sealed assemblies.

3

Treat lighting as a wet electrical boundary

The owner can inspect and document, not improvise around water-adjacent wiring.

Warnings
  • Do not open compromised wet enclosures or continue using a light that shows shock, heat, or water intrusion.
4

Keep automation and scene logic documented

Some lighting systems are part of a larger controller or scene logic.
